Poynter Scandal – Why Very Few Trust Newspapers & Mainstream Media

The dying legacy media. Sad to watch our former information gatekeepers called newspaper, TV and Radio bleed jobs.

Local newspapers suffering sharp declines in circulation and AD revenue. They’re losing the bully pulpit too. Time to get crafty. Not much time left. Maybe the know-it-alls at Poynter can figure a way out…

Of course, the Poynter Institute touts itself as championing “freedom of expression, civil dialogue and compelling journalism.” Sounds good, huh?

Poynter recently published a black list of news platforms they consider “unreliable.”

Senator Joseph McCarthy did that kind of stuff back in the early 50’s.

Just as blacklisters did during McCarthy era. They intimidate, falsely accuse, threaten and bully. Try to silence you by targeting your advertising sponsors, scaring your family, threatening your livelihood.

Poynter is recommending that advertisers “who want to stop funding misinformation” should use their black list. Poynter urging advertisers to avoid certain publishers that might tar their brand with hate speech, falsehoods or some kinds of political messaging?

Senator Joe would support Poynter.

Poynter started the International Fact-Checking Network and something called “UnNews,” declaring at least 29 right-leaning news outlets and organizations to be “unreliable news websites.”

Poynter Institute. Divine arbiters of hate speech. Expert hater-spotters. Thinly veiled economic threats. Subtle encouragement to boycott non-compliant local business?

Local news media blew it. Too much focus on national politics instead of local corruption.

The self-appointed journo-gods at Poynter Institute recently published a list of ‘unreliable’ news sources. Who helped identify the haters? Well, one was an employee of the SPLC, Southern Poverty Law Center, a once a respectable org that fought hard for civil rights. But lately, it’s become what some call, a political activist group. Searching out extremists and hate groups. Just like Joe McCarthy did.

After massive blow back, Poynter killed the list and said: ‘We failed to ensure that the data was rigorous before publication.’ No shit.

Social Media Feedback: The list clearly shows how far Poynter has fallen from its role as “the world’s most influential school for journalists” to a far-left censor of conservatives online.

Poynter’s managing editor, Barbara Allen, said she “found weaknesses in the methodology” to root out fake-news sites. Poynter claims they want to help advertisers avoid funding misinformation.

Poynter has longstanding history in the journalism business. Board of trustees includes execs from The New York Times, ESPN, Harvard, Vox, CBS, ABC, and The Washington Post. Poynter is working with Facebook and Google for its fact-checking programs.

Facebook, Twitter and YouTube Censors

Google, Facebook and Twitter working to de-legitimize or de-platform alternative voices? Newspaper & Broadcast foolishly partner with those who will soon eat them for lunch. Non-profits like Poynter Institute losing support with their aggressive, anti-conservative, activism efforts.

GET WOKE. GO BROKE.

‘People shouldn’t be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.’

Newspapers would have you believe that readers are stupid. By supporting just one view point, newspapers are blowing off 50% of their potential readership. Publishers are to blame for allowing newsroom activists to kill their business.
